ABOUT
My artwork is about the world I glimpse in my everyday life. It expresses how as part of nature I respond to the effects of human activity on our environment. What I paint from these observations is not the sublime or sensational, but rather the things – often quite small things - within my reach. Thus, for example, the resilience of plants, especially trees, contrast with the ephemeral nature of human activity in this era of climate crisis and pandemics. I see the beauty in the organic response to the destructive events of climate change. I produced some of this work to find a way to share the way it has developed through years of work at initially the Edinburgh College of Art and more recently the Open College of the Art.

Acknowledgements: A lot of people have supported my work. Paddy for encouragement and for reaching into areas I couldnt physically reach, with his camera and muddy boots. The website was my joint project with the amazing Dylan Mwakasekele. Thankyou Dylan. And many thanks to Oron Joffe for his sage advice. And to my tutors at the OCA and the ECA particularly Derek McGuire over many years of friendship. The artwork and words are my own.
