Slow motion exhibition
Sept 2023-
CATHIE LLOYD
The Slow motion exhibition is taking on a life of its own. Approaching 30 people - who (mainly) do not know one another and some of whom regularly contribute their reactions, others not. There's people from Australia, Canada, France and the UK with different interests. And every week almost there's an addition. I try to carry on making work according to my own inclination, but am inevitably affected by some of the comments - all very nice - but which reflect what is going on around us. Making for an audience is different from making on your own. I had a fascinating conversation with Bryan about how this isnt a community but has some faint characteristics I'd do well to negotiate carefully.

The time element is intriguing too. I make paintings every week, sometimes more than one, sometimes I persuade myself to let them go before I'm ready to make the self imposed deadline. On the receiving end I imagine people getting the work 'drip by drip' rather than as one experience and that will affect the impact.
